Case Study #03: Delicious Success at Our Favorite Hungarian Restaurant

Customer Overview: Just 15 km from Salzburg, a new restaurant has become a favorite among locals and the Hungarian community in Austria. The restaurant is known for its friendly service, delicious Hungarian and Hungarian-spiced dishes, and its friendly atmosphere. Although the restaurant already had a local reputation, the owners wanted to reach a wider audience, especially Hungarians living in Salzburg, and wanted to see what direction they could take to grow in the near future. That’s when we stepped in.

I. the challenge


Relax Restaurant faced several challenges when we started working together, among which we highlight the most important ones:

  • Limited online presence : Despite their popularity, the restaurant's online presence was minimal, making it difficult to reach new guests and stay in touch with existing guests.

  • Tight budget : The budget for marketing was limited, so every HUF (and Euro) had to bring measurable results.

  • Lack of visuals : The restaurant needed modern, eye-catching materials for online and print use, such as flyers and banners. The lack of these slowed the restaurant's growth.



II. DnD's strategy and plan


The plan we developed focused on cost-effective digital marketing techniques and engaging content creation to increase the restaurant's visibility and engagement with local residents.


1. We created a creative and beautiful content plan: first, we started with the basics: what does the guest need? We created engaging Facebook posts that showcased the restaurant’s delicious food, friendly atmosphere, and exciting board game nights. This was important for differentiation and positioning. Using authentic, high-quality visuals, we captured the restaurant’s unique vibe and made it irresistible to potential guests.



2. We advertised in a mega cost-effective way: With a modest budget of €300 (extremely modest from an Austrian perspective), we launched a hyper-targeted social media campaign aimed at reaching Hungarians and locals in Salzburg. We fine-tuned the ads using A/B testing to achieve the best possible results and ensure maximum return on every euro spent. We achieved this in just 1 month.


On average, for an extremely cost-effective €0.0011 the DnD team bought paid ad impressions on social media. In other words, one person to view our ad on Facebook and Instagram cost us only 0.11 cents. 👇

3. Offline marketing and beautiful flyers: Recognizing the need for professional offline marketing materials, we designed beautiful flyers, banners, and posters that matched the restaurant's image and vibe.


4. Strategic Consulting and Analytics: We supported the restaurant with high-level professional advice in defining and maintaining the right direction, and translated business goals into marketing objectives. We believe in numbers and that with the right support, every catering unit can achieve similar results! :)




III. DnD results


  • Insanely cost-effective paid (PPC) ads : Our creative content achieved over 436,000 impressions , all for €460. In other word, 1 ad was displayed for an average of only €0.0011. (you read that right)

  • Well-improved local activity : Online interactions increased 2.5 times compared to the previous period, and there was significant new activity on posts and ads, and of course in the restaurant.

  • 295 new reservations : The campaign generated 295 new reservation inquiries for just €890. This means that the DnD campaigns generated a new reservation for the restaurant for around €3.01. This is an ultra-high result, especially in Austria.

  • Small but powerful: our tiniest promotional campaign generated 305 shares, likes and comments from just 48 euros.



IV. shared success, outstanding cooperation


By taking over the marketing tasks, we allowed the restaurant team to fully focus on serving their guests. The combination of an increased online presence and attention-grabbing offline materials has made the restaurant a favorite dining destination for Hungarians and locals near the area.

Due to the nature of the project, success is NOT solely the result of the digital marketing system implemented by the DnD team.


The owners, chefs, and servers at Relax Restaurant have played a key role in achieving this success. We have learned that a digital presence is just as important for a restaurant as an offline presence, but what is even more important is the freed up time and increased focus on the guests that derives from the collaboration between DnD and Relax Restaurant.
